The origin of kobyz is connected with the name of the legendary Ко rkyt – the first musician and patron of shamans. Legend has it that when Korkyt was 20 years old, he saw a dream in which some people said to him that he will live only 40 years. So, Korkyt decided to seek immortality. He saddled his camel Zhelmaya up and went on a journey. Wherever Korkyt went, he met the people in white attires digging a grave for him. Then Korkyt returned to the “center of land” – the Syr-Dariya river. Here, he sacrificed his camel and made an instrument in which the skin of Zhelmaya served as the upper deck. Then he laid a carpet on the surface of water and, sitting on it, played a “song of life” on kobyz. As Korkyt was playing, the death did not dare approach him. But once, completely exhausted, Korkyt fell asleep for a moment, and the death in the image of snake overtook him: Kairak-zhylan bit Korkyt, and he died. The legend has reached us with the kui “Korkyt”, glorifying the great power of music capable to defeat death. next...
The People's Artists of the USSR Ermek Serkebayev, Rosa Dzhamanova, Bibigul Tulegenova and А libek Dnishev. Each of them has brought unique contribution into the musical culture of our Republic. The names of these singers are widely known not only in Kazakhstan , but also outside . The creative art of these remarkable musicians combines both European and national traditions, which became possible due to the formation in the Republic of professional musical education of European type. All above-named masters of vocal art studied in the walls of the Alma-Ata Conservatoire named after Kurmangazy under the leadership of the greatest teachers – vocalists of the former Soviet Union . The uniqueness of musical talent, the beauty of voice and the originality of timbre, as well as professionalism of performance helped these singers to succeed in their creative destiny. It would not be an exaggeration to say that exactly these qualities allowed Kazakh musical art to declare itself: initially, within the boundaries of the Soviet Union , and then worldwide.
